Happy Mid-Autumn!

I want to wish you all a Happy Mid-Autumn! May you stuff yourself silly with mooncakes and be blessed with happy days. If you don’t know what the Mid-Autumn Festival is, it’s a traditional festival that is celebrated in the Chinese culture – but also celebrated in other East and Southeast Asia.

It used to be a time to celebrate the successful harvest of rice and wheat in honor of the moon – it’s also called the Moon Festival. But today, we celebrate with reunions with family and friends while we eat mooncakes and watch the moon together.

I am certainly not skilled, but one day I would love to try to or attempt to make my own mooncakes! This year I was sent some mooncakes and they were from Say Weee! an Asian Online Supermarket.

I took a look at their mooncake selection and there was soooo many! To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of them growing up because I had them so much, but I certainly do appreciate them as I’ve gotten older.

Are you team no yolk, yolk or double yolk??

I used to absolutely hate the yolk and didn’t understand why there was always a yolk inside my sweets. The round yolk represents completeness and unity, similar to the full moon. The yolk also adds a different texture and flavor to the mooncakes, a rich and savory flavor.

The classic red bean and lotus brought back some memories, but I also tried the durian snow skin mooncake and I would have to say… I love durian but this was not for me. The snow skin is best eaten fresh because it’ll then lose the elasticity and becomes gunk. Don’t do it!!
